World Study on the Sustainable Development Goals in Higher Education Institutions
The "World Study on the Sustainable Development Goals in Higher Education Institutions" is an initiative aimed at higher education institutions, and intends to shed some light on how they handle the SDGs.
Rationale
................................................................................................................................................................................................
The aim of achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 has been negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and by a variety of socio-economic problems, which are especially acute (but are not limited to) developing countries. In order to move things forward, there is a need to mobilise all stakeholders, from government agencies to companies, NGOs, education institutions at all levels, and other social actors. The "World Study on the Sustainable Development Goals in Higher Education Institutions" is an initiative aimed at higher education institutions, and intends to shed some light on how they handle the SDGs.
The "World Study on the Sustainable Development Goals in Higher Education Institutions" is a timely effort, especially bearing in mind the need to accelerate the implementation of the SDGs, and the perceived need to identify ways via which the higher education section can become more engaged in this process. The "World Study on the Sustainable Development Goals in Higher Education Institutions" will not only identify the current status and the means via which the SDGs are perceived and handled at higher education institutions, but will also identify gaps and needs which should be addressed, so as to unlock their potential as key players in the implementation of the SDGs, as we rapidly progress towards 2030.
The "World Study on the Sustainable Development Goals in Higher Education Institutions" is being undertaken as a joint effort of the Inter-University Sustainable Development Research Programme (IUSDRP) and European School of Sustainability Science and Research (ESSSR).
Who can participate?
................................................................................................................................................................................................
The "World Study on the Sustainable Development Goals in Higher Education Institutions" has been designed to collect information from academic staff, i.e. those teaching and/or pursuing research, at all levels (e.g. lecturers, assistant professors, associate professors, adjunct professors, etc). The idea is to gather insights from the stakeholders whose work has an impact on students, and on how knowledge on sustainability advances.
How to participate
................................................................................................................................................................................................
In order to gather the information in a systematic way, a data collection instrument has been developed, pre-tested and is now ready for use. It can be seen at: to be entered. The details about the completion can be seen on the on-line form.
Participation is anonymous and no details from participants are stored in any way. The survey is open and closes on 30th November 2021. We would hope to receive a wide range of inputs, and hence be able to foster a broader understanding on how higher education institutions are engaged with the SDGs in their core activities.
The Team
................................................................................................................................................................................................
