Supporting sustainable development in the Faculty of Life Sciences

In 2015, the United Nations (UN) agreed on the Agenda 2030 for sustainable development. The agenda aims to enable people to live in dignity, while simultaneously and permanently preserving the natural basis of existence.

The Agenda 2030 includes the 17 sustainable development goals, which address ecological, economic and social aspects at all levels: national, regional and local. All countries are called upon to act in accordance with this agenda and these goals.

Despite increasing discussion of sustainability and global challenges, knowledge about the SDGs and related topics within the academic community and in society is both limited and fragmented.

A broader understanding of the SDGs and their objectives can help us all to better link our work to the SDGs and to position it in the context of global challenges. SDG literacy enriches the education and training of students at all levels.
