Applications must be submitted via the HAW Hamburg application portal: myHAW. 
Online registration and application is only possible via this portal within the regular application deadlines. 

If you are not yet studying at HAW Hamburg, please create a new application account. If you are already studying here, please log in with your student account and do not create a new application account. 

An application is only possible up to the penultimate semester of the standard period of study (example: for a Bachelor's degree programme with a standard period of study of 7 semesters, an application is possible up to a maximum of 6 semesters).  

In the summer semester: 01 October - 31 December
In the winter semester: 01 April - 30 June

By the end of the application deadline, the application form must be complete and include all required documents (receipt of the application in the applicant portal). 

For a complete application you will need 

• University entrance qualification
• Language certificate if applicable (for applications with a foreign HZB) 
• If applicable, preliminary examination documentation from uni-assist (for applications with a foreign HZB) 

To verify which semester you can be placed in, please submit the following documents:

•     Current transcript of records
•     Link to module descriptions
•     Proof of registered achievements, if applicable
•     Certificate of no objection in the case of a failed examination, if applicable

You can upload all documents to myHAW during the application phase. No documents need to be sent by post to the Registrar's Office.

Once your application has been submitted, the person responsible for the degree programme will begin to verify your classification.

Once the classification has been checked, the Admissions Office will begin to review your application and adjust the status of the individual application components.

You can check the processing status of your application at any time in the ‘Application status’ section.

If your application is incomplete or cannot be accepted for the higher semester, you will receive information via the application portal (see section Notification of applicants).

If your application is incomplete, you can submit additional documents within the application deadline. You can find instructions here.

If your application for a higher semester is rejected, you can apply for the 1st semester within the application deadline. You can find more information here.

In order to be informed about the current status of your application, please log in to the application portal with your account. If, for example, your application is incomplete and therefore provisionally excluded, you will be provided with more detailed information in the application portal. You will also receive an e-mail notification to the e-mail address you provided when applying as soon as the status of your application changes (if you have activated e-mail notifications).

The Departmental Student Advisory Service at HAW Hamburg is responsible for the recognition of previous academic achievements after enrolment. Please contact the Student Advisory Service shortly after enrolment.
