German language skills
Good German language skills are a prerequisite for a successful degree programme.
All applicants who have not obtained their higher education entrance qualification at a German-speaking institution must provide proof of sufficient German language skills before commencing their studies.
To be admitted to the degree programme, you must therefore submit a language certificate confirming sufficient German language skills with your application.
Recognised language certificates for German
- German language examination for university entrance (DSH)
At least DSH 2 from a registered German university - TestDaF with at least level 4 in all subtests
- German Language Diploma of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs DSD II
- The ‘Goethe-Zertifikat C1’ or the ‘Goethe-Zertifikat C2: Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom’
- telc C1 University
- ÖSD C1
- Assessment test with passed German test section based on the DSH
- The university degree certificate of a German-language degree programme completed in a country where German is the official language
- Proof of German language skills that have been recognised by bilateral agreements or other agreements made by the KMK and HRK as sufficient proof for admission to a university course or
- ‘German Language Test II’ from the Munich Language and Interpreting Institute
- Completion of a preparatory course with at least grade 4 in the subject ‘German’
Please note: Even if your degree programme is offered in English, you may be required to demonstrate a basic knowledge of German when applying. Find out more on the information page of your chosen degree programme.
