When you are deciding whether to pursue university studies, questions related to costs, financing and funding opportunities play an important role. Most degree courses at HAW Hamburg require students to pay a semester contribution but not tuition fees. Please be sure to also read the information about re-registration.

Administrative fee
The administrative fee is a flat-rate charge for all services provided by the university administration that fall outside the subject-related supervision. These include enrolment, special leave, re-registration, exam organisation and central advising services.
Which students are exempted from paying the administrative fee?

The administrative fee is not charged in the following cases:
- Visiting students from foreign partner universities that have signed cooperation agreements granting exemption from fees
- Visiting students studying with the help of a funding programme financed mainly from public funds
- Students who take a leave of absence for more than one semester in a row
- Students who are participating in a public service training scheme. This refers to students from the Public Management degree course.

You can obtain information about fees and contributions that are charged in addition to the semester contribution from the Student Admissions and Registration Office.

- Fees for late re-registration for the next semester (currently €15)
- Fees for external graduation exams (currently €600)
