EARTHS – Education And Research-oriented Training on Health Sciences

The Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg) Health Sciences Department is organising the EARTHS (Education and Research-oriented Training in Health Sciences) Summer School in cooperation with the Sustainable Development and Climate Change Management Research and Transfer Centre (FTZ-NK) at HAW Hamburg and the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropicial Medicine.

The EARTHS Summer School is a four-week training programme co-funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development  (BMZ). The summer school is intended for Master's and PhD students from developing countries (Africa, Asia and Latin America) who have been awarded a DAAD in-country/in-region scholarship and hold a primary qualification in a life sciences or health sciences related field.

The summer school aims to prepare university students and junior researchers for the tasks of teaching and research in their respective institutions. It focuses on strengthening students' qualitative and quantitative research skills, specifically those related to research statistics and epidemiology; the development of research projects; and the use of interactive teaching skills. The programme also aims to introduce participants to current and historic aspects of German culture and to facilitate the building of bridges between German researchers and the participants, as well as amongst the participants.
