Industrial engineering – a broad career spectrum

Industrial engineering studies range from engineering design and technical quality assurance to controlling and marketing. There is no typical career path.

The two inter-university Industrial Engineering degree courses (B.Sc. and M.Sc.) are generally referred to with the abbreviation 'HWI'. Over the years, the term 'Hamburg industrial engineer' has also emerged in connection with the course.

Because it is an inter-university programme, the HWI is different from conventional degree courses. Depending on the topic and the module covered, the courses take place at the various campuses of the participating universities.

The HWI Bachelor's degree course is offered by Universität Hamburg and HAW Hamburg. Helmut Schmidt University - The University of the German Armed Forces is a third partner in the Master's degree course. This provides students with a particularly diverse and attractive selection of courses and allows them to specialise according to their interests and career aims.

The application process takes place through the Universität Hamburg.

The engineering component of the degree courses is organised by HAW Hamburg.

You can find more information on the Universität Hamburg's course page.
